AcademicsWPCA offers a top-quality education to the area children. WPCA adheres to the stringent State of Ohio Accreditation Standards. On top of that, we add programs for foreign language starting in kindergarten, and visual and performing arts. These programs are offered through state-of-the art technology that readies students for today's society. WPCA has its own library, media projectors in classrooms, and two computer labs equipped to support an entire class.
At the same time, students will learn about what it means to be Catholic, and develop Christian values and discipline. SpanishOur Spanish program, which is aligned with the National and State Standards for teaching a foreign language, is designed to introduce some of the skills needed to learn a world language. Our students learn basic vocabulary and phrases to be used in different scenarios and also, they gain knowledge about the countries where Spanish is the official language; thus developing a greater understanding of the Spanish culture. ArtArt at WPCA centers on the Curriculum for the Arts created by the Dioceses to be instructional, comprehensive as well as enjoyable. Students are encouraged to use a sketchbook to put creative thoughts and ideas on paper and later, expand on those drawings. While developing fine motor skills, grades K-3 work on basic skills: cutting, pasting and coloring. Grades 4-8 learn the elements of design: line, shape, direction, texture, size, color and value. As students advance through WPCA they build upon the basic skills by creating projects that focus on the principles of design: balance, gradation, repetition, contrast, harmony and unity. At WPCA, students also learn Art History and Art Criticism while experiencing different techniques using media such as printmaking, painting, drawing, and sculpture.
TechnologyWPCA offers students an opportunity from kindergarten through eighth grade to learn basic computer skills, mechanics, maintenance and programming through weekly computer classes and the integration of technology in the classroom. In computer class the students will study keyboarding and word processing, create spreadsheets and databases and design their own PowerPoint presentations and WebQuests (inquiry based research activity). The focus of technology at West Park Catholic Academy is to prepare the students for the challenges and changes of the 21st century. Physical EducationLearning to move and moving to learn is evident in Physical Education at WPCA. Through a well-organized, sequential program, Physical Education engages the thought processes, improves movement potential, improves self esteem, promotes and encourages fitness for life, and encourages sportsmanship and personal responsibility. Whether it is fundamental movements in the primary grades, introduction to sports skills and modified games in the intermediate grades or putting it all together in junior high, students are excited and cannot get enough of Physical Education at WPCA. MathematicsAt West Park Catholic Academy when it comes to mathematics we figure in all possibilities to succeed. All students use the Simple Solutions book to enhance their math skills. Simple Solutions is a math program based on daily review which helps students to retain math concepts year after year. We challenge the 7th and 8th graders to problem solve real world situations and offer Pre-Algebra and Algebra to selective 7th and 8th graders based on test scores and academic performance. It is our belief that the best way to prepare our students for the challenges of tomorrow is to meet their individual needs today by providing courses that stimulate and challenge our students. |
