Student EvaluationsReport CardsReport cards are given four times during the school year to keep you informed of your child's achievements and conduct. It is expected that parent/guardian(s) sign the report card and return it to the school within a week after distribution. If you have any questions about the report card, please make an appointment to see the teacher. Interim reports will be sent during the middle of each quarter. Parent/Guardian(s) are asked to sign the interim report and return the tear-off form to the homeroom teacher. The monthly calendar will specify interim report times. Academic ProbationStudents will be placed on Academic Probation when they receive two "F" grades, three or more "D" grades or a combination of three or more D’s and F’s. A student is placed on Academic Probation for one full quarter. During this grading period, it will be the student's responsibility to monitor his/her own progress in those subjects where grades are below average. If, at the end of the quarter, the student has improved and no longer meets the specifications of Academic Probation, he/she will automatically be removed from Academic Probation. The student’s ability to participate in extra-curricular activities (including clubs and CYO/intramurals) during the period of academic probation will be based on weekly evaluations in those areas where he/she is performing below grade level. If the student is making satisfactory progress towards improving his/her grade, then he/she will be permitted to participate that week. This process will be repeated during the quarter in which the student is on academic probation. Satisfactory progress will be deemed as up-to-date on all assignments and some growth in academic achievement. Academic Probation is a serious matter. Failure to improve a grade may possibly lead to a semester failure which must be made up in summer school and/or retention. Students who do not show improvement or increased effort may be asked to transfer from West Park Catholic Academy. Academic HonorsEach quarter students in grades 4-8 will be recognized for academic honors. The honor roll and Merit Roll consists of the following subjects: Math, Reading, English, Spelling, Science, Health, Social Studies, and Religion. A grade point average of 3.7 or above constitutes First Honors. A grade point average of 3.4 – 3.699 constitutes Second Honors. An average of 3.1 – 3.39 constitutes Merit Roll. An improvement award may be awarded by the teacher at his/her discretion. Students receiving unsatisfactory or failing grades in Art, Physical Education, Spanish, Music or Computer Education will not receive honors. Promotion and RetentionPromotion is based upon recommendation of the teacher in accordance with the following principles:

Regarding educating students with special needsAll students are encouraged to participate in the Catholic Education experience. Reasonable accommodations will be made, if feasible, to include a student with a disability into West Park Catholic Academy. The acceptance of a student will be dependent upon the school’s ability to meet the student’s educational needs. Providing for Individual DifferencesClass grouping and departmental classes provide an opportunity for all students to learn and provide for individual differences. Class work may be modified for students to achieve success within the classroom. Parents will be asked to sign a modified plan. Each student is responsible for learning and the mastery of skills to the best of his/her ability. |
